Title: Decision Bottlenecks Exposed: How to Spot and Fix What’s Stopping You
Why does decision-making so often feel like quicksand in companies?
A contract needs to be signed, a budget approved, or a project direction confirmed—and instead of moving forward, things stall. Weeks pass, teams lose momentum, and frustration spreads. Management may claim the problem lies in “complex processes” or “people’s competence,” but what’s really happening is much simpler: the way decisions are made is unclear, uneven, and often invisible.
This workshop gives you a way to shine a spotlight on that invisible system. Using a practical mapping framework, we’ll chart how different types of decisions (operational, tactical, portfolio, and strategic) are made inside an imagined company. Together, we’ll place them in swim lanes that show:
- What kind of decision it is
- Which area of the business it affects
- Who makes the decision
- How long it takes to get made
By visualizing this, you’ll see where decisions pile up, where delays occur, and which levels of the organization slow things down. You’ll uncover the bottlenecks and anomalies that frustrate teams but are often invisible to leadership.
What you’ll do in the workshop:
- Work with real-world examples you bring from your own company
- Classify decisions by type, area, and decision-making level
- Record how long they take and where they get stuck
- Create a clear “decision map” that exposes the flow—and the blockages—in the process
What you’ll gain:
- A ready-to-use method for analyzing decision-making in your company
- The ability to present problems with facts instead of opinions, making it easier to get management buy-in
- A structured way to prioritize where to act first to improve decision-making and reduce delays
- Confidence to address decision-making as a senior business professional, not just as someone pointing out problems
Preparation before the workshop:
To make the most of the session, think of 3–5 real decisions from your workplace and bring them along. For each example, try to note:
- What the decision was about
- Which business area needed it
- Who made it (role or level)
- How long it took (or is taking) to get made
- What type of decision it was (operational, tactical, portfolio, or strategic)
No special background is required—just your own experience with slow or faulty decision-making. You’ll leave with practical tools and a new perspective: one that helps you and your company move from decision gridlock to decision flow.
